The Queensland government has released its Response to Integrity and Accountability in Queensland, which sets out the government’s integrity and accountability reforms. The reforms were first canvassed in a discussion paper released in August. Over 200 public submission were considered with the help of an expert roundtable. The Queensland Integrity Bill 2009, introduced this week, gives a much greater role to the Integrity Commissioner, David Solomon, whose role will include oversight of a new Register of Lobbyists as well as advising MPs and CEOs in relation to their declarations of interest. Legislation next year will cover other areas, including whistleblower protection and rules for ministerial staff.
